DPF Filter Cleaning

Article under construction....
On all 2008 and newer on-highway trucks, the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is used to trap and burn fine particulate matter.  If it hasn't happened already, it will soon be mandatory on all off-highway diesel engines as well.  This DPF filter is regenerated by introducing diesel into the exhaust stream causing a surge in exhaust temperature.  This extra 'shot of heat' cleans and renews the DPF filter.  After a certain number of hours (especially idle hours) the DPF filter cannot be regenerated by the exhuast alone and must either be replaced or removed and cleaned in a special oven which bakes the unit, turning any debris and soot to ash which is then removed carefully and completely.  Flow readings are taken before and after as well as unit weights to record the cleaning differential.  The unit is returned to the customer looking shiny and brand new, along with the recorded weight and backpressure changes and a bag containing the removed debris.
